“Photography is a way of feeling, of touching, of loving. What you have caught on film is captured forever... It remembers little things, long after you have forgotten everything.”

FAQ

What is documentary photography?

It's exactly like what it sounds. I'll help you create a story about you and your loved ones at this time in your lives. It's like having a personal photojournalist follow you around for a little while, capturing your life in a series of photos. I call this approach "storytelling photograph."

Already take pictures of your kids everyday with your own camera/phone?

That is the great thing about our world today. Technology is literally at our fingertips. It's available, and ready to use on a whim. I 100% encourage you to continuing documenting your babies in what ever way you can. This technology is available to us, why wouldn't we use it? But, in all these hundreds, maybe thousands, of pictures you are taking... where are you? Do you ever make an appearance?

When your kids are looking back at their childhood... they don't want to only see themselves... They want to see you represented in the stories of their youth too. Don't leave them an archive full of moments without you. After all, you were there, too.

You think your house is a total mess, it's too dark, or it's too small?

If you've met my husband and been to our house... you would totally know that I do not judge the mess, the darkness, or the size. We live in an old, dark, super small farm house, and it is rarely tidy or clean. I understand that kids are not perfect little creatures that tidy up after themselves. It is just the way it is, and that is 100% OKAY. One day, you won't have smudges all over the windows, there won't be water all over the bathroom floor after every. single. use. and you won't have to ask your kiddo to pick up their leggos for the fifteen hundred millionth time... But I guarantee when it's all gone... you'll wish they were that little again... doing all those things that we thought we would be glad were gone...

You think your life is boring and not worth documenting?

First of all, your life is NOT boring. Most families are probably just like yours, and spends a large majority of their time doing many of the same things you do on a daily basis! Our lives in the social media universe do not show that part of it, and it often leads mommas to think that their family is 'boring' or not worth documenting. Trust me, it's actually in those little mundane moments, that life happens.

You and your future grown up kiddos will want to remember those little things: reading stories together, letting them 'fight' over who gets to lick batter in the bowl vs the spoon, standing on a chair to help you bake cookies or wash dishes, or how you tucked them in at nap time, even if they didn't think they needed it. Those moments may not have the perfect golden hour light, you all weren't wearing matching shirts, and maybe there were even some tears that were shed. But hey, that's life, and those are the REAL moments you will want to remember.

What to do with all the photos?

Print them! Print them in all kinds of sizes, hang them up, put them in a photo book, write stories on the back of them, give them to your kids when they have kids of their own, or even black mail your kids when they get older... ;) the options are endless! These images are meant to memorialize this stage in your life, letting you know that you are an AMAZING parent, you are doing a phenomenal job, and you all love each other very deeply.

I would definitely recommend printing through me and my professional lab, as that's the only way I can guarantee quality. But honestly, just print them and treasure them. After all, that's why you are considering this adventure, right?

What are some ideas for a Storytelling Session?

-Preparing the nursery for a newborn.
-Baking cookies with the kiddos.
-An entire or half day in your life.
-The kiddo's first trip to the museum.
-Hike through the flint hills.
-Walk to the park.
-Playtime in the backyard.
-Craft time.
-Sprinkler/slip-n-slide.
-Snowman building.
-Checking cattle together. <<< that ones for you ranchers who want to get two birds with one stone ;)

Do you think you are too busy?

That's the great thing about these journalistic-type sessions. You don't have to get dolled up if that's not you, and the kid's don't have to behave perfectly, with perfect little smiles the whole time. I genuinely hope your kiddos are 100% themselves! That includes all the normal snuggling, giggling, and even the mischievous running around at 120 mph. I think perfection is in the real and authentic details, not the posed, forced smiles. We can literally fit this session when ever everyone is together, and I can just tag along as an additional member of the family.

Do you have more questions?

That's totally okay! I can't cover everything on this one little page. Please reach out to me on my contact page. I'd love to answer any of your additional questions, or slay any of your other excuses as to why you don't think this will work for you and your family.

Trust me, in twenty years, you will want these images to take you back when they were little... when yogurt was constantly smeared all over your windows and furniture... cheerios were scattered underneath every. single. seat. in the car... the way their chunky little fingers twist and play with your hair as you hold them... their obsession with jumping, twirling, running around at mach speeds... and especially the way you look at those tiny humans with nothing but pure love in your eyes, knowing that you helped bring them into this world, raise them, and watch them grow up and out of your house. In twenty years, what will you want to remember and hold onto?
