Hey There!
I’m Kayla Lemmon. I’m a Jesus loving, taco eating, moment catching, light chasing, wife to a hard working rancher, and I’m really into telling stories from behind a camera and lens.
Whether it’s a simple evening doing chores, or spending a rare free moment with some close friends down the way, I’m always pursuing those candid, beautiful bits of time shaped by the light and shadows in our lives. I’m the combination of a creative and old soul, driven by passion to capture the beauty, the emotion, and the memories of everyday life. I’m breathtakingly delighted and enthralled by authentic expressions. We can’t stop time, but we can use a photograph to take us back in it. I often find myself blindsided by inspiration all around me, hence, why I’m rarely without my camera, and I feel a silent sense of dread when I see a moment unfolding without my camera in hand.
I find true joy in capturing the little, fleeting bits of time, that when collectively stacked together, form in-depth memories. Un-posed, unscripted, and unrehearsed. I spend a large majority of my professional career doing this for families in the Northern Flint Hills of Kansas, but my artists’ heart won’t let me stop there. I’m obsessed with capturing every part of being a rancher’s wife. Whether that’s from the back of a horse as we gather the herd, at the side of the roping pen as I observe my husband honing one of his many skills, or even in the thick of it; quietly standing in the sorting alley with a swinging gate in hand, awaiting one of two words that all rancher wives anxiously hold their breath for: “in” or “by.”
God gave us this mortal life for a reason, and I find a deep sense of purpose in documenting it. This journey has been incredible so far, and I know there are many more amazing adventures yet to come.
